Listed below is a breakdown of the points system. Judges will use the following categories to compile your final score

the following categories to compile your

Design Category

Layout 5 points: We look for a consistent page layout and structure of the site.

Navigation 5 points: Can we travel though your site using a clear and consistent method? Do we have to hit a back button? Can we get to any point on your site in 3 clicks?

Esthetics 5 points: We view the overall quality of the site, with graphics, in relationship to the content and consistency in font style. Music is nice in some cases, but you must have a visible cutoff and the midis should not infringe on copyrights.

Readability 10 points: Does the content flow smoothly and transition easily from topic to topic?

Detail Category

Spelling 5 points: Make an effort to check your spelling. Proper spelling shows attention to detail, and pride in your work.

Grammar 5 points: Basic English grammar and sentence structure are essential in conveying any point. Punctuation and proper wording is also important.

Broken images 10 points: If your pages show X in the areas where there should be a graphic; you have a broken image. ANY broken graphics disqualify (except for free counters and stuff that you have no control over).

Animations 5 points: We see way too many free animations. If they do not add something to your site, or you did not make them, it is best to leave them off.

Formatting 5 points: We look for a general plan, organization, or choice of materials. Is your information organized in a manner that is befitting to your subject?

Graphics 5 points: Are the graphics yours? Do they take a long time to load? Are they clear? Are they germane, and do they complement your site?

Proper Credit 5- 0 points: Did you give the writer, graphics artist, musician, or site designer (if not you) credit for their work? This can also be grounds for disqualification.

HTML 5 points: Hand coding is commendable, if you know how to do it. Is your coding correct? Do you use meta tags? Have you checked your site for errors with different browsers? We use both Netscape and Internet Explorer when looking at your pages.

Proper links 5 points: Do all your links work? Do you have broken internal links? We realize you cannot know about broken links to other sites, but we hope you check them frequently.

Judges Latitude

Noteworthy 5 points: Is the content and overall site a memorable experience for our staff?

Interesting 5 points: Is the information you present interesting to the reader, and presented in a way that a person, with no previous knowledge of your topic would understand the subject matter?

Information 5 points: Does the information you cover stick to the topic? Will the reader walk away with a good understanding of the material you are presenting?

Originality 10 points: Do you present your graphics and information in an original way that would draw the reader into the site to investigate more? Is this a cookie cutter site that is cut from a familiar mold, or can it stand on its own merits, with perhaps a different slant on a covered topic?
